Overcoming Challenges to Create a Masterpiece
The recent whole-house remodel completed by Millwood Remodeling & Design stands as a testament to the skill, innovation, and dedication of our team. This extensive project, accomplished in an astounding 10 weeks from demolition to move-in, involved significant structural and aesthetic changes, each with its unique set of challenges and solutions.
Overcoming Structural Challenges
One of the most significant challenges was the removal of a major supporting wall between the kitchen and den. This required the installation of a 24-foot double LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) support header in the attic. This task was not only technically demanding but also critical for maintaining the integrity of the home’s structure. The successful implementation of this solution paved the way for an open, modern floor plan that completely transformed the living space.
Reimagining Space
The reconfiguration of the home’s layout was another major undertaking. We moved several walls to create a new arrangement for the master bedroom and bathroom suite. This included the construction of a massive walk-in shower, equipped with dual body shower systems, representing both a design highlight and a technical achievement. Similarly, the guest bathroom was completely gutted and redesigned to accommodate a double vanity and a beautifully appointed tub/shower.
Flooring and Leveling
A unique challenge presented itself in the form of the sunken den, which required raising by five inches to align with the rest of the house’s flooring. Achieving a level floor across different rooms is a nuanced task, involving precise measurement and skilled craftsmanship. This adjustment not only enhanced the aesthetic flow but also improved the functionality and safety of the space.
Design and Aesthetic Choices
In terms of design, the choice of high-quality Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring throughout the house set a tone of elegance and durability. Complemented by new baseboards, the flooring choice contributed to a cohesive and modern look.
